I'll be running an i7 4790k in an orange and black themed S340 and was curious of the best card to go with.

I've read that the gtx 780ti is still better than the 970 out of the box and thus provides outstanding value.

However I've also heard that the 970 is more "future proof" due to it's support of direct x12 and more efficient architecture plus it's new features and more VRAM.

The XFX 290 DD on offer for £200 is a fantastic deal as well I've heard but doesn't come with any recording software like shadow play that I know of and doesn't support Direct X12 so does that hinder the card.

Thanks in advance of any help you guys can provide!

290s come with a recording feature just like shadow play, which you can share on Raptrs website. It also has a normal record and stream feature.

Ill upload something i got on recording last night so you can see the quality and performance :).

And as far as i can see there are no performance hits.

depends how long you plan to keep it but i don't think directx 12 is going to be implemented by anyone for a while yet. it's not even released yet is it?

put it this way, i think by the time dx12 is in wide use both cards will be out of date anyway.

I personally wouldn't let the presence, or absence, of DX12 support influence my GPu choice. It will be a long time until we see support in available titles.

Ahh I presumed with the card having access to it that it was coming soon and would thus be implemented soon as well. As for the choice though is the 290 the best option or would the other two be better, budget for the gpu is anywhere up to £300 and I want to play most of the latest releases with ultra settings 1080p with an upgrade to 1440p and sli/crossfire compatibility.
