Which card for my system...

Hello all, any advice before i go to overclockers later.
Have decided to upgrade my card to match my monitor's resolution (1920 by 1200). I think i am going to get an ATI HD 4870 X2. Should i go for two 4890's instead? Or should i go for an nvidia card bearing in mind i have an intel chipset so wouldn't be able to sli...

hmmm..

If i end up going for the 4870X2 ... should i buy one of these (heard this is a lot quieter which attracts me towards it)

Would like to get another hard drive, but this can wait if its worth crossfiring two x2's.

EDIT: Does the 4890's 1000Mhz mean that perhaps i should even be looking at crossfiring two 4890's??? ...

Why spend all that money when you dont really need too??? one 4870x2 or 4980 will run 99% of games maxed at at that res.

I have a 275GTX and the only game that i cant maxed out and get 40fps+ in is crysis. So get either one and save your money

^^As above, don't go overboard! Also don't be lured by the promise of a quieter cooler on that Gainward card; it actually apparently still throws out a bit of a racket.

Get real mate, at this resolution a GTX275 can not do 40fps in crisis on veryhigh but 20fps. And try to play games like crysis warhead , STALKER Clear Sky, Cryostasis, farcry2, empire total war with max settings and your fps will be close to unplayable.

No try farcry2 1920x1200 4xAA ultrahigh and you will get approximately 40-45fps which is not good at all because you will have minimum fps 20. Also in empire total war in the big battles you will get 20fps not smooth at all.

Based on my card is overclocked faster than a gtx285 then i get slighty better fps than a stock gtx285

I have all the games you have mentioned and previously ran all these on 8800GT SLI again with no problems apart from crappy Crysis which is a crap game anyway.

So go back in your little box and play with your toys!

Going back to the OP's actual question, if you want it nice and quiet, youre prob best going with the cheaper one then buying an aftermarket cooler tbh
