Hey!

I have the following PC

Intel 82945G
6.4ghz dual core
1gb ram

I don't know too much about cards, and I think there is a compatibility issue so I wanted to ask on here that way I hopefully don't get the wrong one!

So, what graphics card would be compatible and best for this to run 3D applications?

is it PCI-EXPRESS or AGP?

and i suppose cost comes into it.

just for 3D apps, any mid range 7 series (ie 7600gs/gt)
or
an ati X1*** series (ie X1600, or even an X800)
should be fine

That's where I am stuck as well, I am guessing I must open it up and see the slot.

no need ma man. search google for a program called 'CPU-Z'. tells you all you need to know about your pc.

Already opened comp up lol, nice program what part tells me which slot I have?

Here is pic of inside;

Theres a purple one below the three slots which has 1 small gap a big 1 and then another small 1 - is that AGP then?

I feel like such a newbie lol

you sure on that clock speed?

6.8ghz it says, dual core though so I am assuming it's really 3.4ghz or something like that. Not too bothered aslong as I can run graphical applications lol

go the tab that says mainboard. it should say in the bottom section if its pci-express/agp, and what speed it is.

pci express is 16x, agp is 8x

but from the pic it looks agp to me, but i duno i havent seen my old one in a long time.

and the clock speed is 3.4ghz. they will say its 6.4 to make it faster (and technically is in stuff that takes advantage of both cores)

Nothing there just grey, that's what I meant by the dual core processor only certain applications support it so in effect it is 3.4ghz.

I think you're right it is agp as the agp has 3 gaps and I am looking at the recommended ones you said now, thanks ^^
