Which card to cross flash / soft mod ?

Unless you specifically need a quadro over a FireGL/PRO then I'd go the ATI/AMD route, as the avenue for softmodding Quadro's has been dead for quite some time, leaving you with only the option of much older cards.

Best option is the HD5870 (if you can find one) for softmodding to V8800.

If you want to spend a bit more then you could HD6950 > V5900, or HD6970 > V7900
