Upgrading and older rig for my son, it has a Thermaltake purepower 560w psu older model with single 12v rail and no pcie connectors but could buy an adaptor, don't want to have to buy a new psu.

Output +5V +3.3V +12V -5V -12V +5VSB
Max. Load 40A 30A 22A 0.5A 1.0A 2.0A

Card will be paired with a Abit AN8, 3000+amd 64, cd drive, dvd, 2 hdds. Will the psu although being older still have enough juice to power up any of the following cards.

7600gt, 8600gt, x1950pro.

power supplies baffle me

I'm using a newer Thermaltake pure power 480w (it has proper pci-e and sata connectors as well as molex plugs)

but I using 3 hard drives a couple of optical drives, card reader, 4200+ cpu 2 gig ram and an 8800 gts and a fair few usb devices..all with no problem..stable and solid from 10 in the morning to 11 at night over the weekends

but most places will say that I need a 500w minimum for my card..

As above the PSU would power the 8600 fine, the amperage on the 12v rail is a bit to low for the x1950, and the 8600 is 2nd best out of those behind the pro.

Get the card today so ill let you know how things went, got an msi one passive cooling, it should please my son no end being able to play bf2 ect that the ti4600 would not run and as a bonus I can prize the little sods paws off my rig with its still venerable x1900xtx ;) .

Got the card built the rig from the bits I had and my boy had a great time the last few days cod2, bf2, ect he likes his fps games (chip off the old block). Highly recomend the card as a good budget upgrade and it works fine with a thermaltake 560w purepower (old style no pcix and single 12v rail@22amps). Oc'd well too, 675/800 and its the passive MSI card but a side case fan blows onto it to help the cooling. Thanks for the advice fellers. And now I get to have my own rig to myself which is bonus :D .
