Which Card?

For that money, (OK I spent £13 more), 8800GT all the way. Utterly superb card for the money. Don't even think of spending that much and NOT getting one!

Oh OK, your link says 8600GTS but it's actually a 8800GT...

The HD3870 is the better card of the 2 by a noticeable margin.
Any reason why you want the most expensive one of the lot?

I'm sorry but www.anandtech.com and www.hothardware.com disagree. Anandtech even say the HD3870 is 85% the speed of the 8800GT on average and on this site the cheapest 3870XT is only £20-25 less than the cheapest 8800GT. Not trying to burst your bubble, it's just that the 8800GT is faster, and worth the extra.

The problem with this card:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-103-XF&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1008

Is that is costs £30+ more than what I planned to spend :(
That's because you're looking at a pointlessley overpriced, pre-overclocked thing. In fact it almost looks like you went out of your way to find the dearest when it's not even the fastest model. :p

This is more like what you should be looking at. The cheapest 8800GT 512MB but overclocks like mad and is only £20-25 more than the cheapest 3870XT. No factory OC but unbeatable value for money right now, I have one.

If you must have the fastest one then you want this. Just happens to be £35 less than the one you picked. :)

Edit: Ignore what I said about the cheap one, it's not £20 more anymore since OcUK have hiked the price a lot since I last looked at it about six hours ago. Mean of them. The Zotac AMP is the best one though.

What are you talking about? The XFX 8800 GT I linked to in my last post is the 2nd cheapest on OcUK. My budget was around £150, which is why I was saying that the 8800 GT is at least £30 more than my budget...

Again, the one I linked to is the same price as the OcUK one... so what on Earth are you talking about?

Thanks for your posts guys! I now have to think about spending that little bit more :)

I could swear that prices keep changing before my eyes.

Is someone working late up there or am I just going mad?

Edit: Oh NM, I realise what I did now. I thought I was looking at the XXX Alpha Dog when I opened the link. D'oh. Okay, now that I've come to my senses I would say that if the budget is that tight I'd either get the cheapest 3870XT (even though it's only 85% the speed of an 8800GT on average), or even get a 3850Pro and overclock it like mad as I've seen they can match 3870XT speeds.

Alright, if I went for the 8800GT, which make am I better off getting. I was looking at the Asus or XFX because they seemed the cheapest, but which is better out of those two?

I'd avoid XFX because their customer service is the most dire thing ever, and I've heard bad thing about Asus' too. :(

Pretty much any other brand is a good one.
