Please help me decide on which card to buy! rest of my system includes E6550, Asus P5k, 2gb RAM. Want a card for decent gaming at 1680x1050

Should i go for the:

1. 8800GTX - getting very tempting as prices drop

2. 8800GTS512mb - new, only fractionally cheaper than the GTX

3. 8800GT - cheapest of the lot

really cant decide between the 3 of them and want to order before xmas.

thanks :)

Depending on what you want to spend:

£230~ OcUk GTX as the GTS seems impossible to get for £200 now
<£200 8800GT

Both are great for the resolution you want, and also you might want to take into consideration that the 9 series is apparantly on schedule for next year so something cheaper now like the 8800GT will easily last you till then when you can upgrade again... if you wanted too that is.

upto £230, originally was getting a GTS but as the GTX is similar price this week thats tempted me

or like you say get a GT and upgrade next year.

Will i see much difference between the 3 cards on games like COD4 an Crysis?

Yeah you'd see a difference in Crysis especially if you use AA, GTS from what I've seen is the highest performer in this game for some odd reason, don't know why as the GTX should be better - there's some comparison threads in this sub forum somewhere that you might want to have a look at - mostly the GTS beats the GTX at the same settings. COD4 I doubt you'd see a difference unless... my GTS 512 runs it at 1440x900 4xAA / 16xAF with everything at maximum possible and I don't go below 60 FPS (or least I cannot notice any stuttering or slow downs).
