Which Card?

I can't decide what card to get for my new build. I'm looking for a mid-high end card that's under £250, which pretty much covers the 8800 GTX, the 9800 GTX, the 512MB GTS OC or the 3870 X2.

Now, as I am upgrading from an ancient Radeon 9800 Pro, we don't need to consider if it's worth upgrading to some of those cards like when somebody had a 320 MB GTS. Think of me as starting completely afresh. All I am looking for is a capable card that will last me as long as possible before upgrading. I plan on getting a 24" monitor so this card has to be a good performer at 1920 x 1200. AA would be nice, but I would do without it when the time calls for it.

I keep reading reviews and benchmarks and it seems that each of the above card beats the others at different things, which makes deciding which one to get difficult as there is no clear winner. Some work better at high res, some work better without AA, some are better in Crysis, some better in COD4, etc.

I know that this is perhaps a bad time to buy as there are new cards around the corner, but it's been a few weeks since my PC died and I am getting impatient.

After all of the reading I've done, I'm still no closer to deciding what card I want. Any ideas? Cheers!

Since no one else replied ill give my opinion. If you want a good card and yet save a bit id grab something like the Gainward GeForce 9800 GTX 512MB or if you want the best card in your price range then id grab the PowerColor ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 1024MB - also great for crossfireX.

At that resolution I would go for a 3870x2, or a 8800GTX. But you are right in saying there are newer cards around the corner. I would hang on for just a little bit!
