My dad has decided to upgrade his graphics card as it is getting on a bit (x1800) and would like a new card with an HDMI out. Not having kept up with developments in this area I have come to the graphics gurus to ask for the best option. Budget is £200, many thanks.

will ask the question before anyone else... what is the spec of his pc and what resolutions is it going to be used at?

I am just upgrading from an x1800xt to a hd4850 as using a 20" at 1680x1050 and seems to be about the best bang for buck for me

am sure others will advise differently :)

It is a bit ancient now, he is running:

Core 2 Duo E6300 @ 2.8Ghz
4gb Ram
250gb Hdd
22" Dell Widescreen

He will probably be using it to play games on his 42" Plasma, which I think runs at a max of 720p.
