Is better then a 4870 but runs much quieter and cooler at the moment? (excluding very high-end kit).

5770 (lies somewhere between a 4870 and 4890 depending on the game and whom you talk to )

Depends what you mean by very high end 5770 hardly any better than the 4870 to be worth upgrading to. Next up is 5830, but that isn't brilliantly priced for its performance, which moves you onto the 5850 as a more sensible suggestion. Are we getting too high end yet?

5850 is the only thing worth upgrading to from a 4870.

I'd wait til they got back around the £200 mark though.
