I am on the verge of buying a new GFX card. My two choices are HD7950 or a GTX760.

I have trawled the net for advice and numbers etc but thought I'd try you guys.

Cheers.

i would go 7950 it is much faster and around the same price.

Not quite sure where you get that from.

The 670 is defiantly faster at stock settings but once you over clock the 7950 will pull ahead as it generally has more head room for overclocking.

There's more value in 3GB of RAM and a 384bit memory bus on the 7950 as well as the greater overclocking headroom.

I wouldn't say the 670 is defiantly faster though. :p

ok so would you say that the 760 is faster than the 7950 at stock settings?

As most of the reviews have shown that is the case, also the 670 is slightly faster than the 760 again at stock settings, therefore the 670 is faster than the 7950 at stock settings.

There is no dispute form me that the 7950 can pull ahead when overclocked, as I have said it has more headroom for overclocking.

ok scrap that last post as I just realised it was the spelling catastrophe that you were criticising rather than the which card is faster at stock....nicely spotted spoffle :D, I'm sure the built in spell checker does this to me deliberately.

I wouldn't say that the 670 is being defiant though... :p

I do agree with your post though, at stock the 670 is a bit faster, but overclocked a 7950 will be faster. :D

Your right that the 3GB ram and the 384bit bus are better, but to be honest I reckon by the time they will make a really noticeable difference the cards wont be powerful enough anyway.

As said really, the 670 is fastest then the 760 then the 7950 at stock, but once overclocked the 7950 will generally be quicker (although overclocking is garaunteed) Ive gone for a 760 personally just awaiting delivery As the games I want to play favour Nvidia and generally from what Ive seen theres not a major difference in FPS, not that I'd notice personally anyway. Oh but you do get game with the 7950 :)

Thanks for the reply's guys. I've ordered and MSI 760gtx, so its done now! Also ordered a white Fractal Design R4 case too ( not from here though unfortunately )

this one?

one of quietest !!!!

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/GeForce_GTX_760_TF_Gaming/

Today, NVIDIA releases their GeForce GTX 760. It uses the same GK104 graphics processor as cards like the GTX 660 Ti, GTX 670, GTX 680, and GTX 770. MSI has overclocked their GTX 760 out of the box, but with only a relatively small overclock that provides a 3% performance improvement over the reference design. The new card delivers an impressive 22% performance improvement over the GTX 660 but is also priced $60 higher. In the product stack, the GTX 760 will replace the GTX 660 Ti, with the GTX 760 GAMING providing a performance that is 8% higher at $20 less. Compared to AMD's lineup, we see the card 11% faster than the Radeon HD 7950; the HD 7950 Boost variants should roughly match its performance but is more expensive.
While all other companies cheapen out by using more affordable coolers, MSI goes all-in, using the same TwinFrozr cooler as the one on the GTX 770 GAMING. This more powerful cooler provides fantastic cooling performance, resulting in low temperatures and low noise levels. While other cards are quiet in idle too, MSI's card is by far the quietest during gaming. With just 27 dBA, it is quieter than most other cards on the market in idle while still packing a serious gaming punch. Any gamer who's looking for the lowest possible noise at 1080p full HD will certainly enjoy the GTX 760 GAMING.
While AMD's HD 7950 comes with 3 GB of VRAM, the GTX 760 "only" uses 2 GB, which is plenty considering both cards are just too slow to play any game at resolutions that require more than 2 GB of VRAM. Overclocking works well and provides an easily accessible performance boost of around 18%, making the card faster than the GTX 680 and HD 7970 GHz Edition. Pretty nice for a $260 card.
MSI's card also reduces power consumption slightly over the NVIDIA reference design, which helps with its Performance per Watt score. While other GTX 760 cards we tested are at the end of the GK104 field, MSI's card sits right in the middle, which certainly benefits temperatures and noise levels as there is less heat that needs to be cooled.
According to MSI, they expect their card to retail at $260, which is a very reasonable price premium of $10 over the reference design. When looking at cards for serious gaming, this is the card offering most bang for the buck. The cheapest AMD HD 7950 retails at $10 more, is 11% slower, but comes with three games. So if you absolutely must keep cost down, then HD 7950 would be a cheaper option after selling off the game coupons.

i didn't say anything about the 670 he was on about a 760 which is more like a 660ti. and i got the speeds off a graph from anandtech. here is a link for you: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/854?vs=855
