im just about to build another pc
an i5 Haswell

which card should i go for?

Asus HD 7970 Matrix Platinum 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (2 of these)

or

Asus HD 7990 6144MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Which would be best?
 
Most of the time, you'll be fine with more than one graphics processor if you're running an i5, though there are a very few games that will benefit from the hyper-threading that an i7 has.

If I was buying right now, I'd consider something like this :

If you're after something even more powerful then the 7990 is a good shout providing it's at a decent price, or some of the reduced 780s.
