Which cards are a worth upgrade from GTS 640MB?

Looking around it seems the 3870X2 is probably the card to get.

Probably, that or the 9800GX2, depending on how much you want to spend.

no real ppoint in upgrading, but yeh, the 3870x2 ought to fit the bill...

I even found the 8800 GT a good jump up from that, and you could still get good prices for the G80 GTS on the bay. Depends if you want small cost & small leap, or big cost and big leap.

Roughly about 30% improvement to move to the 8800GT/GTS resolution dependant. The X2 3870 is a much better card however and will give you the biggest performance boost. When upgrading a decent video card one must see the improvements to justify spending on a new toy . I hope you enjoy your new X2 3870 when it arrives .

I've thought about this for a while, as it seems the older 640MB versions have been knocked for six a bit. I also have finished all the games I wanted to play after purchasing a new card (Quake 4, Crysis, Bioshock, COD4 and Lost Planet) and I only have a 22" CRT running at 1600x1200 so have even thought about downgrading slightly though would probably not see the point unless I use the money to later on upgrade to something more snazzy..

the GTS 512 is a worthy upgrade, I know because I went from a 640mb GTS myself.

I'd hang on to it for a little while longer, see whats round the corner in June.
