Which case for sli'd 8800gtx's (antec 900,tj09,eclipse etc..)

Building another rig for a mate.

Budget not my problem but he likes the TJ09 and the Antec 900 and they are obviously very different cases. Trying to decide which to get him.

Going into this rig will be an Asus P5N-32 E SLI 680, QX6700, Tuniq Tower, 2x8800GTX's, X-Fi, 2 sata DVDRW's, and 2xSeagate 320gig 7200.10's PSU will probably be an Enermax Infinity 720w, seeing as I have read reports the Galaxies are not that quiet and Corsair have even demo'd their 620w running GTX's in sli, so the Infinity is loads. I have a single pci-e to dual pci-e splitter cable (hard to come by) and that will be used for the single pci-e cable attached to the psu and power one of the gpu's. The other 2 pci-e cables will power the other gpu.

So to the case choices :

Antec 900 is 65 quid with tricool fans, will fit on his desk, and should have enough room for sli seeing as OcUK offer this case with gtx's. Also seems to have decent gpu cooling with 2 front fans and possibly a 3rd on the side if needed. Tricools are decent enough on low setting. I think this case looks fine. No idea of build quality though. I expect it's fairly plasticky in places.

TJ09 rigged out with 4 ambers is costs 210 quid. 3 times the price but probably 3 times the quality. Will have to go on ground. Not ideal at all. And possibly too deep anyway.

The only other option I am considering is the Akasa Eclipse. Had one myself, and while good, I never thought the cooling was that much better then previous cases I had (lian li pc7, antec p180 etc) but it was the easiest case I ever worked with. The optional side panel would obviously help gpu cooliing.

So which case for this new rig ?
One more thing - seeing as I have only had the Eclipse out of these 3 cases I mentioned, how would it compare noise wise fitted with say 3 very quiet fans (scythe 800rpm's for example) to the Antec 900 with all fans on low setting.

Get the NZXT Lexa Classic case. Spacious, looks sweet. Takes the GTX's in stride, as well as cpu cooler.

Hard drives are brilliantly placed (facing at you).

You get 4 fans 3x120mm 1x80mm

Made out of aluminium. Front door attachment. Light. Robust. Comes with lock. Loads of space for upgrading.

and did i mention its sweet?

p.s i have one ;) :D

I recommend Akaska Eclipse. HEEPS of space for 2 GTX's. Fantastic case. Airflow isnt as good as its competitiors i.e. Antec 900 but its better overall.

Thanks for the advice.

Not convinced about the Eclipse. Had a few myself. Front door a hassle to get off to clean front filter. And I never thought the cooling was anything special. Great to work on though.

The A10 is a non starter over it not being able to accomodate oversized heatsinks over the stupid top fan being so close. I saw when ChrisCat had his fitted with a Scythe Ninja, it almost touched the small fan. I am gone off Lian Li's weird cooling design too.

I can't stand the mirrored finish on the Lexa. Neither can my mate.

Antec 900 seems to have good cooling and is a nice price. I personally don't like it myself but my mate does.

Is the Silverstone TJ09 worth the price tag, factoring in another 30-40 quid to fit it with Sharkoon silent eagles.

well the 900 will run gtx in sli no problem with a ninja and northbridge coolers ...
case runs very cool too

Doesn't the plastic pci retention thingy have problems locking down dual slot cards ?

Will the top fan block an Enermax Galaxy. He is looking for this now ?

Are the stock fans quiet ?

thanks

1, the plastic things are fine they fit my dual slot 7800gtx.
and you can allways clip them off and use a screw if not.

2, the stock fans... there quiet compaired to a lot of fans but iv removed all mine tho because i use akasa silent 12cm fans which iv linked to fan speed ajusters. the stock fans come with 4pin molex's not a 3pin connection.

the 25cm fan is great tho, its not like most fans so if you have it on full rpm, its a wooshy sound not a buz. so it just blocks the sound from the other fans not via being louder, but it just blocks the sound of them it just does i dno how, and because its a wooshy sound ya can bearly hear it anyway, and on its medium or low setting its silent.

3, theres nothing obstructing the top of the case on the inside, any psu will fit

Thanks.

I thought that long psu's like the enermax galaxy would not fit the armout over the top fan or the usb gubbins on the top interfering ?

well, i dont have the top fan installed, no where neer any use having it fixed in anyway (it clips on and off no tools), its better to just let the air rise through the vents.

and as for the usb things i dont have them in ether lol. i didnt find any need to have them
