Hello, i am looking to build a new pc as an upgrade but i am not sure about the case. the requirements that i need are at least two usb 2.0 and two 3.0, full front air intake and as high from the ground as possible (it will be running on carpet). Also would you say this set up will run for 6 or 7 years with no problem or will it become obsolete before that?

Build:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3800x 8 core and the cooler that comes with it
GPU: Gigabite Geforce RTX 2070 super 8 GB Windforce
Motherboard: MSI MPG x570 atx am4 gaming edge wifi
Ram: G.Skill tridentZ 16GB DDR4 3200 CL14
Storage: Samsung 970 evo M.2 500GB and Seagate barracuda 8TB
Power supply: Corsair RM 850 W 80+ gold atx

3800x isn't really worth it over the 3700x. Cpu wise I think you'll be set but I don't think you can really predict that far ahead. How long the GPU is sufficient mostly depends on resolution and refresh rate of the monitor you're using.

Id suggest getting some kind of surface to put the pc on, but if you run it on carpet its advisable to have the PSU fan facing upward into the case

That NVME SSD is over priced - the Toshiba or WD SN550 are better alternatives.

Do you also really need a 8TB HDD? What do you use it for?! :o

Agreed with @bagel though, the 3800X isn’t worth it. Go for the 3700X.

PSU is also over kill, and out of stock if you’re buying from OcUK...

I think you’ll struggle anyone to guarantee you any bit of tech, let alone a PC, will hold up for 7-8 years that’s a big ask. I mean my last PC lasted me 6 years, but I upgraded the GPU, added more RAM and some SSDs in that timeframe as well.

It also depends on your needs, expectations and usage over the years too. If you demand to play every AAA game at high FPS for 7-8 years then it probably isn’t realistic to expect that, without upgrades along the way.

All anyone can tell you atm, is what’s best bang for buck performance wise right now. And that it should at least last you a good few years without anymore upgrades.

What’s your actual budget OP and we can help suggest a spec if you like

Thank you both for the reply. For the PSU i have it already so i will swap it to my new pc, talking about gaming i would like to go for a very high to medium performance (don't really care about super epic fast performance) and make it last as long as possible with these components, also have it VR ready if possible. I have chosen 8 TB as i have two 1TB hard drives on my current one and i have filled them up in only 2 years with games, programs and other stuff (as this is my every day and only pc). budget whise around 1.500 tops i think, considering i will keep PSU and from what i heard the ryzen cooler that comes with it it's not bad so i wouldn't need to buy those.

So is the budget £1500 for the case and the internal components basically, excluding psu? And is the PSU the only thing you already have and are re-using to clarify? :)

Also still think the 8TB is really un-necessary personally. It's a lot of data to lose if the drive ever died or became corrupt, if you think you'll be using that much data, I'd start getting like a NAS with RAID 0 for backup.

I'd just get a 1TB NVMe for your OS/games and chuck a 4TB drive in for storage if you really need it - but hey, your money :p

Here's a draft spec for ya - 1TB NVMe for your OS and main games, then the 4TB drive for your storage needs etc.

If you want to save £50 and aren't bothered about the slightly faster RAM and better timings, you could drop the RAM to this bit of RGB bling... https://www.overclockers.co.uk/team...al-channel-kit-rgb-black-tf1d4-my-08m-tg.html

(obviously change the drive to 8TB version if you really want, which'll put you just over £1500, or £1450 with the other RAM kit mentioned)

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,421.93 (includes shipping: £0.00)

The case has 2x USB 3.0 ports on the top header mate

That Noctua cooler will definitely outperform the stock Ryzen cooler, so use that if you have it - just use the AMD mounting bracket it comes with :)

P.S. You may as well get that £50 cheaper RGB RAM btw, I don't think you'll see a noticeable performance increase for the money tbh.

One of the worst X570 boards you can buy. Just get the B550/X570 Tomahawk or something else. The Team Dark T-Force 3200MHz for £68.99 would be cheaper still over the Team RGB.

I left the mobo as he’d already picked it and presumed he wanted it for the onboard WiFi - B550 stock isn’t even landing until next month if we’re lucky for a few select products. The X570 Tomahawk would be nice. But it’s on pre order again. (edit: ScottiB has stated X570T isn’t due to land til mid/end July)

What’s so bad about that mobo for his use case exactly? It’s not going to spontaneously combust is it? We can talk VRMs but for what OP wants, it’s going to run no different than any other.

Yeah so there might be slightly cheaper RAM, it’s personal choice. If it were me I care a little about the aesthetics. If he doesn’t care for RGB then sure go for the cheaper kit.

I didn't notice that the op had picked it, but it should be avoided anyway as it has an awful VRM. One of the worst along with the likes of the X570-A Pro. Better going with something else even if it means waiting, or going B450 + wifi adfapter etc.
