Which Catalyst for Skyrim?

There's no doubt, you have to watch the mods and your VRAM usage. After removing all my grahical mods it's running like a dream, everywhere. VRAM usage is well below the limit for my cards now (where it was constantly on the limit before) so I'm sure it's that. I can even run lots of SSAA now. :)

I think I'll add my favourite mods one by one and see how I go, and I'll probably try that light version of Skyrim HD too.

I don't know if it was delayed or what not for me but steam updated me to 1.4 last night, release notes say it fixes a memory issue so hopefully its all sorted now and I can get back to slaying dragons.

By a [email protected]?! Its just a console port.
It's not a console port, have you looked at the game, just because it is a cross platform game doesn't mean it's some crappy console port. What it is is a **** poor programming exercise. Instead of throwing and using GPU's, they concentrated on CPU's... I've been running trifire 6970's and it's mental, ULTRA setting and getting 50-60fps at 1920x1080... thing is, 1.4 is awesome, massive difference!

Go and wash your mouth out

Skyrim uses ID game's new engine IIRC and it certainly was not written for consoles.

Sorry, but I cry BS. There's no way that Skyrim can look half as good on a console as it does on a PC.

I fell for this "consoles are almost as good as PCs" about six months ago when I took an Xbox 360 in trade from a mate of mine. I think I lasted about thirty minutes into New Vegas before feeling quite ill due to the choppy framerates and horrid grittiness of the engine due to no FSAA.

Well, it's a cross platform game that runs like dog doo on PC. I think console port is a fair assumption to make considering it's inability to utilise PC hardware from even a few years old. It couldn't even access more than 2gb of RAM when it was released! Pugheaven is right also that the 1.4 update has improved it immenselym, although I don't agree that they concentrated on CPUs at all as it is hugely inefficient with it's use of CPU power.

Cry BS all you like, Skyrim is a console port. Not that I care, it's just an observation. I love it, and it does look brilliant with a load of AF/AA and some texture mods.

Runs great on medium spec PC. Looks great on my medium spec PC.

You must have set yours up incorrectly.

It doesn't run well on any high end PC's, well it does run better now that it's been patched but it's still not perfect. As was mentioned earlier, it cannot make full use of high end CPUs which bottlenecks it's ability to utilise higher spec GPUs properly.

And I never said that it looked pants, it looks even better on a high spec PC then it does on a medium spec one. ;)
