Which cheapish mouse for gaming?

I'm thinking of either an MX518 for £20 inc. delivery or an MS Intellimouse 3.0 for £18. Are these decent? I owned a 3.0 in their first version ago and loved it and had a lesser model of Logitech and loved that too. I've never owned a Razor mouse but my mate's seemed a bit flimsy, however they seem to get great reviews. Also is it worth spending double that and getting one of the higher range mice?

What mat would you recommend?

I don't know about the new Intellimouse, but I've just switched from my 5 year old original Intellimouseone to the MX518. I'm no pro gamer and my mice experience is mostly limited to office kit.

Having been burned twice by useless wireless mice in the past, I wanted the cable. Needed to be big as well, as my hands can get cramp within seconds of being screwed up over a small mouse.

Right handed, the mouse is gorgeous. Better than the traditional 'curve clockwise' Microsoft mice that cant be used left handed. The two 'shoulder buttons' will take some getting used too, but I already quite like them.

I use right handed for gaming, left handed in windows. I actually quite like the feel of it left handed but it isn't designed to be used this way. The shoulder (backwards and forwards) buttons are difficult to use left handed as they are meant to be pressed with the thumb when used right handed. There is also a button in front of the wheel which should be useful in gaming, but I haven't installed the software to get it working. I might do so so I can map it as a left shoulder button.

Mat? Hmm, it might exceed my case and monitor as the longest standing component in use. Cant help you here.

I would go with the Logitech MX518

Can't fault Logitech for their mice - great products though it took me a while to get used to a G5, espcially in games. Mostly due to the fact my previous mouse had a ball in it!

I've got a Razer Diamondback 3G, absaloutely amazing mouse. I wasn't sure that £20+ on a mouse would be a wise choice, BUT It really is!. Would well reccommend this one, very smooth especially with the Goliath mouse mat.

I use MX518 with Everglide Titan Gaming. Both been pretty nice. All depends on what sensitivity you are using.

i have the mx518 and tho it is a good mouse and u can set up to 5 on the fly adjustments for mouse sensitivity i find anything over 1,000dpi is just too much prefering to stick to 400 for sniping and ~850 for general run and gun ;)

Had used an MS intellimouse in the past and just wanted to try a gaming mouse to see if the increased dpi would make any difference. Needless to say i have seen 3 benefits: on the fly adjustment is good when sniping, more buttons is good for gaming and general windows use, and the pointer no longer flicks to the corner of the screen as it does with cheap mice.

Comfort wise i prefered my intellimouse but i think that has something to do with having large hands and holding the mouse with a claw grip.
