Which city building game?

I used to be a big fan of the sim city games but haven't played for a while. Just wondering what the best sim city style game is today? I see Sim City 4 on steam for a tenner but I'm also keen to know if Cities XL 2011 is any good? Cities is also a bit more expensive so would like to know if it justifies the extra £20.

I heard City Life 2010 wasn't great, tbh the consensus just about seems to be that Simcity 2000 is hard to beat! I just wish I could find it to buy somewhere, Simcity 4 is pretty decent though I've been playing it on my net book recently.
 
I'm currently playing CitiesXL 2011. It IS NOT SimCity, it is a completely different style of game. CitiesXL is all about Balance, balancing out the needs of the population to develop the big cities. Money is easy to generate should you get the balance right, but get it wrong and it can go very very bad very quickly.

3D graphics engine looks nice and you have an entire globe to connect cities together with, including trading. Finally has some form of mass transit, but its not so good. Focus Home did NOT support CitiesXL 2009, so we'll see how they get on with this version...
