Which City for birthday?

Well I live in Newcastle so thats out, will just be me and the girlfriend for 2 nights and we just want something nice with pubs and something to do through the day. Done Scotland and the Blackpool malarky, Leeds is out as we will be going later on in the year. Will be driving so getting about should be ok and it will be late May.

Just some suggestions really.
