Which city simulator?

Damn, looks like I missed out. Went to buy Tropico 4 (SSE) today and it's back up to £24.99 :(

I do miss the Pharaoh, and Ceaser type city builder games though.

Isn't Sim City Societies more similar to Pharoah than proper city building games, in that it's more about pleasing and tending to the specific wants/needs of your people than actually creating a city?

Pharoah has always been one of my favourite games but I replayed it recently and realised just how shallow it is, mainly due to the fact there is absolutely no AI involved whatsoever. Build your whole city on a couple of long straight roads and you're sorted.

I really wish someone would make an updated version with modern graphics and proper AI, but the same sort of goals and setting. I tried Caesar 4 which was awful and Children of the Nile which I couldn't get into mainly because of the abysmal UI and ugly graphics.

I think Pharaoh only works because its AI is so predictable. You couldn't have the same mechanic if walkers chose which way to go rather than just moving based on a very simple set of rules.

Went a bit overboard and ended up with simcity, anno 2070 and tropico 4. Latter 2 were bought as they were on discount, Anno on steam and Tropico is £4.99 on purple game shop website as a download - not steam though!

Spent hours on simcity yesterday, the time flies by worryingly. So far enjoying Anno as well.
iviv thats sad with the 3 limit activation, some companies really take the pee.

Tropico yet to play!

Don't believe it has been mentioned yet but a city 'builder' game I enjoyed for many hours has (and occasionally still is) been Cities in Motion. Got it when it was cheap and spent @80+hrs on it so was well worth the money. Must mention though, it is not strictly a city builder game, its more about setting/building up public transportation for various cities and scenarios (building tram/bus/metro/boat/helicopter lines). You can build your own city if you want with the city editor but it strictly about controlling public transport. I believe Cities in Motion 2 is coming out this year, I will be checking that out myself.

My 2cs.
