if monitor is 22" or smaller would just go single 4870. 4870X2 should arrive in 1 month-ish...

In general the 4870 is commonly faster than the 3870X2...so going for crossfire 4870 is going to dance all over the 3870X2...although you might want to hold off as there is a 4870X2 coming imminently.

Thinking of the DFI LANPARTY LT X38-T2R Intel X38 motherboard, PSU at the moment is a Corsair HX 520W, would that be enough to run the 4870 X2 in Crossfire?
