Which Component Are You Currently Unhappy With?

Hey guys,

I came out with a great simile the other day; Upgrading PCs is like trimming your sideburns, because every time you think you have one side looking perfect, you end up having to trim the other.

I don't know about you lot, but this simile describes my upgrading habits perfectly. Every time I upgrade one component, something else always stands out as being sub-par, at which point I upgrade that and then something else seems sub-par, ad nauseum.

So, come on guys, this is the thread where you can share what component is bugging you this week. ;)

For me it's my CPU, for some reason I am still on Socket 754 and using an underpowered Athlon64 3400+, and even after OCing it is still bottlenecking my X1800XT by a fair margin.

I look forward to seeing your replies, no doubt some will be funny as I know you lot have a mad sense of humour.

Sincerely yours,
Úlfhednar.

Well i'm sat here with a 80gb Maxtor that's louder than my case fans and hotter than my graphics card at idle  :p

That's why I switched from Maxtor to Seagate actually, planning to go Western Digital in future though. ;)

Up until last week the component I was least satisfied with was the total lack of PC of my own and now it is onboard graphics on my laptop but since my games are ~4,500 miles away with my normal PC there is nothing that is really a problem :)

Im not so happy with my graphics card. Only have an x800xl, would really like a x1900xt to play crysis when it comes out :)

Well, my specs arent that great, but they play everygame I want them to. So its not all on max AA and max AF but I dont mind atleast I still get the enjoyment :)

I'm peed off with my DVD-R/W drive (LiteOn SHOW-1633s or summut), as it seems to have stopped recognising ANY DVD's I put in and identifys em as Blank CD's even DVD Movies!...

I've just bought an LG GSA-H10ABAL (OEM) as a replacement!... Hopefully this'll sort the problem!..

Might keep the LiteOn in as a Slave cos it does work sometimes, and use it for R1 movies!...

I am (like the OP) still running a 754 A64 3400+ (Advent PC) but mine's not OC'd its not too bad!, but I do want to go AM2 4400+ (OEM) soon!... Just need to save for the Chip/Mobo/DDR2/GFX... not much realy

The fact that im still on 1Gb of RAM. Whats putting me off upgrading is the fact that i'll need to go DDR2 if i switch to Conroe or AM2.

I have 2x256mb of really cheap, crappy generic ram in my 805 system... I want that changed to 2x1gb of the G.Skill as it is good value and a decent brand. Although I can't complain at the £14 I payed I suppose :p

My horriblable Creative Speakers with their dodgy sound controller, and fairly crappy sound, cost me nearly £90 as well.

My favourite has got to be my 19inch TFT monitor, cost me a lot, but it's keeps on going and going and going, and have never had a problem.

My system doesn't have much overclocking headroom and so my 3200 is running at stock. Its surely bottlenecking the GPU.

Probably my harddrives..... when are solid state ones coming out. Fed up of how slow they are and how noisy.
Also could do with a proper 5.1 surround sound speaker system. Only got quad speakers atm....
Also a bigger monitor ;)

My Pentium 4 3ghz & my 6800 can play doom & quake lovely, as soon as css and the physics + amount of people are on the screen my cpu & gfx fizzel up lol.

I am waiting for my lovely £99 3700+ san diego to arrive right now... Missed the damn thing yesterday, I swear he didn't ring the doorbell!

Gonna pick up an Asrock dual board so i can have some fun with my 6800 for a couple of weeks more until I can fork out for a 7900 GT.

My Zalman 7700 CPU cooler...herad it was quite good and quiet....although it keeps the temps down, the noise is just a lil too much for my liking...so need to do some research into a nice new quieter one

Sorry for being a bit off topic, but are you sure it dont?

Most 3200's reach at least 2.5 or so? are you sure its not over heating or something?

At the moment I have;

Athlon64 [email protected]
1Gb pc 2700 ram
2 x 6600gt in SLI
Onboard sound
36Gb Raptor
2 x 250Gb Western Digital
80 Gb Seagate
Antec P180
Dell 2405 24" monitor
Xerox XA-7 192i 19" monitor

Im not sure of the order I want things upgraded, but I want to;

Upgrade the cpu to dual core(Probably Conroe)
Get at least 2Gb of decent ram
Get a better GPU, Single card this time I think.(Probably wait until DX10)
Get a X-fi souncard
Fairly happy with the harddrive a tthe moment, although I will change the Raptor to the 16mb cache version when its out. Also aim to get a total of 1Tb storage eventually
Case aint bad, but would like either a Silverstone TJ03, Lian-Li PC-101 or a Windy XR1 case
Want to swap the 19" screen for a Dell 2001, as it has the same vertical res as the 2405.

So all in all, quite a lot to do there.
