Which component is faulty?

last time mine kept shutting down was down to my cpu fan clogged to the max with dust ....just glanced through the thread so might have been mentioned before but it's the first thing i check now.....esp when you say it's 8 yrs old

could also be worth applying new thermal paste to your cpu as well ....good luck!

New AIO cooler was only just fitted about 12-18 months ago with fresh paste and temps seem pretty good. I will apply some fresh though anyways thanks, better safe than sorry.

Given the reasonable CPU temps, it's not likely to be that. Given the age of the PSU, its power rating and the fact that there's a 580, I'd be looking at the PSU for sure. For reliability/longevity I've gone all 850W EVGA for my PSUs now, even on a pc with a passive GT 710!

Not exactly sense making behaviour for bad contact...

And that £90 level gets PSUs whose manufacturers trust to give them 10 year warranty.

EVGA or Seasonic? Which is better, and has better customer support etc. I also presume I'll only need something ~650W?

I've heard good things about both but I don't know enough to make an informed decision between them.

Overpriced second rate PSU.
Already just five year warranty for high end price should give hint about capacitor quality and to how much BeQuiet trusts them to last.

This is lot cheaper and has quality capacitors for higher chances of surviving longer than its longer warranty.

Ive just sent back a Seasonic for ticking fan and crazy coil whine, looking online i found quite a few user comments about the fan being a bit hit and miss.

Reviews seem to rate the bequiets as very decent and whisper quiet so each to their own yeah :)

EVGA wins for me, the warranty is decent and I've been running a few for years now. Go for a higher rated power PSU if you can, the more headroom you have the longer it will last. I know it's the most boring component, but it's what could kill everything else if it's crap...

It's electrical noise PC components care about.
Capacitor quality affects to how long it's before components will receive too much AC instead of DC.
And pretty much decide the operating life of PSU, unless there's some weak solder joint/weak component etc.
Without some outside reason properly sized semiconductors tend to work for very long time, or easily die fast if improperly sized.

I would go with the psu being at fault as well, as a driver conflict issue would not cause a delay before the pc would be able to be restarted however a high cpu temperature would but you have already checked your temps and ruled that out.
