Which connection for adding a 4th screen?

I currently have a G15, but am starting to wonder about upgrading to a mechanical keyboard. The only issue is I love using the G15's screen to monitor CPU/GPU temperatures, FPS, and other stuff, and mech keyboards don't have screens.

To try to find another way round my little issue, I've moved a spare screen onto my setup so I can run Windows Sidebar gadgets showing the stuff I'm after while gaming on the other 3. My current 3 screens all have DVI/HDMI and VGA, so I'm currently using (from card to screen):

HDMI -> HDMI (1920x1080)
DVI -> DVI (1920x1200)
MiniDP -> Active Single Link Adapter -> DVI (1920x1080)

To add my 4th card, I've hooked him up from DVI -> adapter -> VGA from my GTX460 which I use for PhysX. This works OK, but it breaks Just Cause 2 which is determined to try to render the game on the GTX while displaying through the 7970 across 3 screens. Hilarious! :)

I want to hook the 4th screen up to my main GPU, but don't know which option would be better:

HDMI -> HDMI (1920x1080)
MiniDP -> Active Single Link Adapter -> DVI (1920x1200)
MiniDP -> Active Single Link Adapter -> DVI (1920x1080)
DVI -> VGA (1366x768)
This setup would allow me to buy both parts I need through OcUK:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CB-016-OK
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-058-HS

or

HDMI -> HDMI (1920x1080)
DVI -> DVI (1920x1200)
MiniDP -> Active Single Link Adapter -> DVI (1920x1080)
MiniDP -> StarTech MDP2VGA Adapter -> VGA (1366x768)

Most of the data about the StarTech says it's Active (including StarTech's own UK website), but a couple of places list it as Passive. Sadly, OcUK don't sell a MiniDP-VGA adapter, so it would mean going elsewhere and waiting a few days longer. This second option works out about £10 cheaper than the first, but I will happily spend the extra tenner if it's more likely to work/give a solid result. The first option also means I can buy both items from OcUK

Anyone got any experience/advice/ideas? Anything gratefully received. :)
