My son is nearly 4 and am thinking of getting a console (for the first time) so he can play Toy Story 3 and other kids games.

Which is best: PS3, Wii or Xbox360?

Are these likely to be updated any time soon i.e. should I drag out the PC gaming a bit longer?

I've probably opened up a can of worms with fanboys... :D

My 5 and 7 year old girls love their Wii. Much more appropriate content for them. The 360 is Daddy's

There's a lot more casual games for the wii that would be instant fun rather than learning how to play the game. A child has a shorter attention span so they would prefer this. I'm not sure if a child would find motion contol harder or easier. This might sound really daft but a more conventional control system might help with their co-ordination and encourage them to continue gaming in the future.

Might be worth waiting to see Kinect (360) in the wild (Nov. 10th) and how much the bundles are. After watching Kinectimals my two kids can't wait.

The Wii is the most sensible option TBH, cheap games, cheap to buy and plenty of fun games the young one. There is also several games on it for the more mature gamer to enjoy.

I agree with Abooie. Would advise waiting now to see whether Kinect is worth its salt. Could turn out to be Christmas's big hit. :D

I Recoemmnd buy pc and xbox 360...opinion from my experience

Hmmm... £500 - £1000 gaming PC as well as a £150 360 slim to play...... Lego Batman /Harry potter. He wants something for a 4 year old child not something for himself to play COD Black ops at 1920 x 1080 at 60fps.

OP - Get a Wii, the wiimote with a steering wheel and some lego games and mario kart will keep him happy for hours.. Cheapest option and will be fun with the wii sports as well.

Probably the Wii overall as has been said, though a PS3 wouldn't be bad for when they get a bit older, and also allows fun classics like crash bandicoot to be played :p

Nearly said a PS3, but only as the PS3 move kit is just arond the corner and some of the move games are looking to be very young child friendly.

PS3 has lego games and some excellent PSN minis... These are also good for young kids. It 'could' be an option, but the PS3 will set him back around £300 with move and a few games. Wii will be £150 + some games.

Yh PS3 is more money, but like I said it would provide more of a range as they grow up and the guy himself might fancy a play now and then

But then on the flip side, it could be said that by the time they are old enough to use a PS3 well for its other gaming genres there might be a PS4 round the corner so yh..personal choice I guess.

if hes only 4 he should love Mario, so the Wii would be a good choice

my 5 year old nephew loves his wii and cant get enough of it.

Threads like this usualy attract people who think Nintendo are for kids, they seem to forget all of a sudden what is actualy available on other consoles. For instance, the PS3 has a ton of child friendly games.
LBP, LBP2 (due in november), Joe danger, Pain, Fat princess, ghostbusters, Ratchet and Clank, Eye pet, Modnation racers, Sega all stars racing (and any other sonic game), the Lego games.....and the list goes on !!
Don't settle for a Wii just because every one suggests it, The PS3 has games for all ages and is one hell of a media center. Personaly I think the OP will be much happier all around with a PS3 than he would a Wii.
I have had all 3 consoles and 2 kids aged 8 and 4, the PS3 had the most use overall with the whole family, so it's fair to say I'm speaking from experience ;)

At 4 surely he's just gonna try and shove the controller up his nose or something.

Saying that I remember my dad let me and my little sis play duke nukem 3d when I was around that age, great fun.... responsible parenting :D
