Which Console?

I know this has probably been asked and/or argued about 3 million times, but I have been doing my gaming on a PC for so many years that the console world is a bit of a mystery to me again. I'm pretty much a Gameboy and Megadrive generation person :)

The main reason I want to buy a console is my 4 and a half year old daughter. I want something she can use to play dancing/singing games and the like, and that has plenty of children oriented games. My understanding is the Wii fits the bill.

But the gamer in me says, if something like a PS3 or xbox 360 is less dated, and it will also have something for mum and dad, then I dont mind spending more.

However, if I go for a PS3, will it mean I'll struggle to find the right games/accesories for a 4/5 year old? I know all the marketting for the PS3 is directed at a more adult user, but never mind that if at the end of the day all those dancy games for kids are being released for all the consoles anyway. Or are they?

Any media centre / blu-ray playing capabilities can be ignored here because I already have a media centre PC.

Well on the whole I think the PS3 is easily the best console of the 3.
However, as you already have a media centre, and mostly want child orientated games then it's probably the worst of the 3 in your situation.

I'd probably agree that Xbox plus Kinect could be your best bet. If you go with the Wii you'd be limiting what you can do over and above the kids games. it does have adult orientated games but nothing you'll miss.

Another possible option is to buy a Wii, and a 360. A 360 without Kinect is really cheap (about £70-£80 for a very good condition used model with warrenty from the likes of shopto.net). I got the 120GB one for £70 free postage and you wouldn't know it was used.
You can then pick up a Wii too really cheap these days.

But if you just want the 1, i'd go down the 360 + Kinect route. Never used it myself as i'm not into any motion control gaming.
Not sure which is meant to be better between Kinect and Move on PS3 but I do know there is very little out for Move and as I look for PS3 related content a lot, I hear very little about it. So i'd be cautious that it won't getm uch attention so you could limit yourself for future releases.

My 4 & 6 yr old like playing the wii. All the marios, dancing/ singing, kirby, cooking, dora games, the movie tie in games ice age madgascar etc wii sports theres easily 20+ games they play. Wiis a re pretty cheap.

If it were for you, I'd say get the one that most of your friends have, as that's what it's come down to me. I've got all 3 consoles but spent the vast majority of my time on the 360 as that's the one all my friends have.

As for your daughter, why not get a Wii? It's the cheapest, has the most kiddy games, plus even if it does go out of date sooner (replaced by Wii U soon) she won't notice will she? And then you'll be able to pick up loads of old Wii games really cheap.

Thanks for the comments guys.

I'm going to go for a Wii for my daughter for now and will probably get myself an xbox but maybe wait for a bit and keep an eye on what new consoles are announced
