Hello

For Christmas I got the remaining parts for my new machine so today i've been putting it together. Currently using the stock intel cooler but looking to upgrade it for something better.

I've a budget of about £50 - Any recommendations? :)

Done a bit more research and if i up my budet a little i can get either the Noctua NH-D14 or Phanteks PH-TC14PE which seem to be the best

Any thoughts? quite like the look of the Phanteks at the moment

The noctua keeps my temps well down. It is a nice bit of kit. Quiet too.

I cant push my chip past 4.6 so my temps are well within range of the i5 with the noctua.

Noctua NH-D14, Phanteks PH-TC14PE and Thermalright Silver Arrow are all fantastic coolers all within a degree or so of each other.
The SA is the cheapest, but hardly ever in stock.
Phanteks look the best but are all out of stock.
D14 I can personally highly recommend, but there is only 1 in stock so be quick if you want it.
Whichever one you decide on check your case size and ram height for clearance, as all 3 of these are HUGE :D

Out of the 2 you say I would go for the noctua D14, very quiet fans, great cooling and a good mounting system.

Using a Corsair H60 with 2500k at 4.4Ghz and it idles at about 35C, hitting 55C ish (I haven't thoroughly checked recently) under full load.

Try the Hyper 212+ @ 4.6GHz 10 runs at max stress test on IBT, I'll bet it's not better than this.

+1 :D

I have a H80 with Noctua fans blowing through it. Keeps my 2500K 4.3GHz (1.27v) around 55 when gaming, when idle about 36~ degrees on a cool day and 40-41 when the heating is on.

That's with the fan set to mode 1, lowest BTW at all times. Medium mode and high mode are even lower and they're still quiet but audible. I like my fans laptop quiet at all times :p

Running Intel BurnTest the temps do not exceed 61 degrees either on lowest fanspeed mode. thermal performance is excellent IMO.

just out of interest, how much better are these coolers than my old thermalright ultra (not the extreme version)? My 2500k gets a bit warm at 4.5ghz with the required 1.33v.
