I don't know which CPU cooler to get?

Should i go for the Thermalright si-120 or the Thermaltake big typhoon?

I have an asus a8n premium and a venice 3200 cpu.

So, the Thermaright SI-120 is the best bet then. What about a quiet but good cooling fan to go with it? What are my options?

id like to step in and suggest the scythe ninja that also comes with a 120mm fan for only £1 more (the si-120 doesnt). Keeps my opteron 148 @ 2.98ghz at 48c load, whilst remaining very quite (only spins at 1200rpm). It'll handle anything you can throw at it with that venice.

Its out @ OCuk atm though lol.

Lots of options but the AKASA 120mm quiet fan is a great place to start

There will be a lot of opinions on this but the Si-120 is a great cooler and matches the ASUS A8N-SLI Premium very well, and is easy to fit. If you install it with the heatpipes facing the memory you will get the fan to blow a nice breeze directly down onto the mosfets heatsink.

Well. i bought the SI-120 with the Akasa fan and the temps are superb. The fan is a little noisy but i can live with that! Cheers.

What case fans do you have? What m/b temps are you running?
What thermal paste did you use?

Those temps seem a llittle high to me for a single core cpu. Nothing to be concerned about though.

No case fans
Mobo temp is approx 35
Used the paste that came with the Thermalright SI-120

Remember temp has a lot to do with the ambient temp of the room. The hotter the room the higher the PC temps! I am happy with my temps.

What temps are you getting? Do you have case fans?

No case fans
That's why the temps are a little raised!

Below is the stats from my system after it has been running a few days

mbm17026ghz9vx.jpg

3x 80mm fans [intake - 7v]
2x 80mm fans [exhaust - 7v variable/PSU]
120mm PSU fan [exhaust]
120mm AKASA on SI-120

I think adding some quiet case fans does help. .
