Hello,

To clarify, I am thinking of buying "mother" a new laptop and I was specifically after the Sony VAIO VGN-FE31H, However I wanted to clarify that the cpu, a 1.66Ghz Intel Core (2?) Duo T2300 is indeed fully 64bit compatible, i.e. will happily run xp x64. A dizzy question I'll warrant. (Having checked intel's website it would seem yes)

Cheers, Paul.

Hi , no XP32 drivers will work in XP64.

You'll need XP64 drivers and there's not many devices that have XP64 drivers.

Amigan.

its an intel core duo, not core 2 duo, it is based on the yonah core and is NOT 64bit, it is only 32bit unfortunately

Hmmm, how frustrating, Intel's site is very misleading.

Cheers, for that.

Oh and regarding why x64, I have a spare license, I could leave the OEM licensed WMC which comes with the laptop I suppose.

It surely can't be that disimilar, er can it? :)

Interestingly enough, looking at the spec, as quoted by certain other etailors, the Sony VAIO FE31H (same model) has a "T5500 Core 2 Duo"

Hmmm, now this does support a 64bit OS right?

Sony have a habit of keeping the exact same model number and updating the cpu etc - I found this out when ordering a different range of Viao for a colleague at work (SZ range)
