So far I have seen the following CPU's and I am keen on overclocking having just bought a Prolimatech Megahalems cooler. Maybe even invest in some W/C eventually. Which CPU would be the best to purchase out of the following.

Q6600 - usual prices, I guess £70-£100
QX6850 - around £160
Q9505 - around £130
Q9450 - around £150
Q9550 - around £150
Q8400 - £???
Q9705 - £180

My aim is to hit the 4GHz barrier :D:D, I'm guessing the QX6850/Q9505/Q9550 and Q9705 will do 4GHz but not sure about the others?? I will be using my ASUS P5Q-E P45 board and 4GB of OCZ Reaper 1066MHz HPC Edition RAM.

As you can see from my sig my current E6300 is running happily at 3.4ishGhz :)

I don't want to upgrade to i5/i7 as I have not long had my ASUS board and want to play with it a little first and see what Intel have on the horizon in the next year or so...

Cheers

Your right about prices, certain e-tailers who still have stock seem to be hiking prices, I've seen the Q9550 on certain sites for £250+

Also i7 920 still seems to be available for around the same price as a 2nd hand Q9550 if you look hard enough.

Its a shame would love to have a nice Q9705 but price fixing seems rife...

Thanks for the views guys, keeping my eye out for a Q6600/QX6700 or Q9550 now :)

But it would be lovely to own a rare chip like the Q9705 :)...
