Hi

I currently have a DFI Lanparty MB with a AMD 939 4000+ CPU and 1gig Dual Channel Ram

I am looking to upgrade my CPU and am unsure now which to go for.

Can anyone suggest a good CPU

well it would be an easy upgrade to a dual core athlon, and would cost quite a bti more to get a core 2 duo. i say go amd which is the way im going but i plan to upgrade end of next year to quad core :D

You could get eth ASrock ddr2/ddr1 PCI-E/AGP board and get a core2duo now using your old ram, that wouldn't be any more expensive really.

I went with the asrock DUAL-VSTA board and I've found that it's very acceptable and cheap way to upgrade to a conroe CPU. Overall it cost me under £200 for the board and the E6300. Now I can take my time in upgrading to SATA drives, DDR2 ram and a PCI-E gfx card.

Thanks for that..

I was thinking of getting the AMD X2 4600 but I think I will go for a Intel now.. Been a while since I had an intel CPU :D

hmm i was thinking about going that route with the asrock board, however it doesn't clock very high, and for me by the time i have enough to fully upgrade new stuff will be out. i have learnt from the past bitty upgrades are usually a waste of money, do it all or nothing.

an amd dual core will last you through next year

Your cpu is still a cracker by todays standards. Absolutely not worth your while. if you're thinking about games, than look at uprading your gfx card. it makes a much bigger difference than cpu, and prices should be coming down now with the recent release of a new generation.

What I was looking to do was upgrade CPU (MB if I went Intel Dual Core) and also from a 7900 GTX to a 8800 GTX and a PSU as I have a tagan 480 at the moment. I have a DFI Lanparty MB at the moment
