Which CPU cooler? (TRUE/Noctua/Other?)

Guys/Gals/Llamas

Going to be ordering my new kit today. Will be a P5Q-Pro m/b and a Q9550.

I've been advised to get a decent cooler to allow me to o/c, but am not sure which to get.

I like the look of the Thermaltake (have one on my s939), but have heard that you need to lap it. I have no intention of doing that (wouldn't know how anyway), so it is a bad choice?

An alternative would be the Noctua, but that appears to have only a 3-pin fan on it. Don't you want a 4-pin PWM fan for a CPU cooler?

Any other suggestions?

the noctua gets results similar to TRUE, so unless your doing some extreme overclocks, then noctua

Cheers for the advice, but what about the 3/4 pin issue? Is it so quiet that even at 100% I won't hear it?

I've just installed a Red Scorpion, and can't fault it. Stunning looks, but more to the point, keeps my Q6600 clocked at 3.6Ghz at a cool 56C under load, after hours of Prime95ing.

Quiet as a church rodent as well.

Got it with the backplate for a shade over a pony.

Highly recommended.

Noctua NHU-12P with fan :cool:

Temps: idle at 30c, Intelburntest 56/7c

Thanks guys - went with the TRUE in the end. Wasn't certain the Noctua cooler would fit my case.

Yea either that fan is mega expensive or ponies cheaper than i thought.
