Which cpu cooler would you choose ?

Brocken Eco Advanced is 149mm high.

And very beefy Scythe Mugen 5 would be 154,5mm in standard version.
Though in stock RGB version is 3mm higher.

But with convex base optimized for dented heatspreader of Intels they would need grinding/lapping base flat for good wide area contact with convex heatspreader of Ryzens.
This was propably about that cooler's base simply rocking on top of CPU instead of making good contact:

Which is very counterproductive for true cooling power:
Without big size you can't have truly big surface area for dissipating heat to air.

Did you read the OP's? issue with cooler? Size....

I would strongly avoid a used water cooler. They have a relatively limited lifetime anyway, so you really should always buy new. And water coolers are not magically more efficient than air coolers, they are just more convenient. A smaller radiator than your existing air cooler is not going to cool things better. To match that large air cooler you are going to need a BIG water cooler. A 240 or 280MM. Personally I would just get a slightly smaller air cooler, a 120mm. It will almost be as good, you can always crank the fans up a notch to make it as good, and it's a lot cheaper.
Also, have you considered replacing that large fan? Looks to like it may be possible to fit a quality 120mm fan to that sink to make it a lot smaller.

I fully agree. I believe I made similar points earlier in the thread.
