Which cpu, duo or quad?

I'm being forced to get a new cpu to test a motherboard. I didn't want to get one now but there's no way out.

Sooo I have a max of £150 to spend. Should I go for a low end (Q8200)quad core or a mid range (E8400) duo?

The uses will be mainly PS and 3D work.

Which should I go for?

Go for a quad, your 3D work will love you for it

EDIT: quick google for any relevant link and found this:

http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/archives/000942.html

Can see its slower in games (but is clocked 600mhz less) but encoding in 3d max and cinebench shows a massive improvement.

Sure there are other reviews out there but can't really search for them now. Most will be reviews of indiviual chips on hardware sites compared to other similar chips

Thanks guys.

Reflux, Really!? Why would that older one be better?

Plus that cpu doesn't come with a cooler... so my budget would be blown. Unless the core duo one I have laying around would fit it..?

The Q6700 has double the cache.

The Q6700 has a 10x multi as opposed to the the 7x multi of the 8200 so makes clocking easier.

The Q6600 and Q6700 are better chips than the 4mb cache Quads.

Really need some quick advice on this guys. Want to order soon.

Just to elaborate.
This cpu is for a zotec 9300 wifi board inside a Silverstone sg05 chassis. I'll use a stock intel fan to cool it. The sg05 is like a Shuttles case but not quite so small.

If I was to get the Kentfield over the Yorkfield will that 65nm manufacturing process make things a little too toasty for a small setup?

Bear in mind that I'm not going to be doing any OC'ing...

Advice greatly appreciated.
