Which CPU? E6??? series?

Hi,

Just bought an Asrock Dual-VSTA mobo as need to upgrade my PC from an AMD3200(single core) with 2GB RAM and can't afford new GPU yet.

Couple of questions:

As much as I'd like to go Quad Core can't really push the boat out yet so...

Would I be better chasing an E6300 or E6400 to pop in short term?
Would I get a significant boost over my current setup?
Would I get any overclock with this mobo?

Given I want to run some VMs I assume I should avoid the E4??? series as they don't have the Virtual support?

Is it worth bothering with the E6600 or should I just go Quad if I end up stretching to that amount?

Do I have any other options?

the difference in the E4XXX series is that it has less cache, 2mb as opposed to 4mb.

I'd hard the dual vsta were limited in OC'ing. I'm not after huge boost but I'll take what I can get until I can afford a better mobo

Well I was looking on keeping this side of £100 for the CPU as I may need to get extra RAM as well. I've seen E6600 going for about £100 and E6400/6300 for a bit less. Just wasn't sure on what was the best option.

id save the cash if i were you and get a e2200 and a freezer 7 cooler. its around 50 quid for the cpu and thanks to its high multiplier even the asrock board will get good overclocks out of it with ease.

run that setup for a while till the prices of penryn cpus drop down, or the q6600 comes into your grasp.

Wasn't sure on how the Virtualisation stuff in the E6000 series would affect my VM use? Would I notice a big difference in running the E2200?
