theres not much in the cost of these, and I'm trying to spec a pc for a mate under 700

i3-6320
i5-6400

which is better for gaming, 2 core i3 higher clock or 4 core i5 lower clock

paired with a 4gb GTX960 playing DAYZ standalone (I believe)

Surely you can do better than either for £700?

Even modern games are not as multi threaded we would like so single/dual core performance is still king, HOWEVER, that may/may not change in the future so place your bets :D

For DayZ.. DEFINITELY single core performance is king.

Windows has to be included that's nearly £100 down the drain.. heres the basket so far, and that's not leaving much for a case, I was hopeing for a decent one but it looks like I may have to go el cheapo

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £657.57
(includes shipping: £11.70)

Does your friend have any other Windows licence for Windows 7 or 8?

The free upgrade program is still active.

Considered purchasing an eligible Windows 7 or 8 licence for much less?

This is the sort of thing I would go for. You may want to add a 92mm exhaust fan also. I would grab a Windows 7 Key online and do the free upgrade - you would still be in budget :).

Edit: I should also point out that the new gpus from both vendors are out soon so it could be worth waiting a month or so on the gpu front.

Dropping the 2x H110 and going for non-usb win10 leaves you at ~£555. +85 for z170 and +40 to bump the i5 up to 6600k leaves you at ~£680.
