This is not a sales post just advice on what to get rid of or keep as I have just upgraded one of my machines & will need to strip another. Will be for my son & he will have a Nvidia 1660TI as his GPU.

Ok here we go so what is best?

AMD R5 2600 with a wraith spire RGB cooler
Asus B350 prime plus
16gb Vulcan T-Force DDR 4 3000mhz (4 sticks)

or

Intel I5 7600K coolermaster 212 Evo
MSI Z270 SLI Plus
8GB HyperX fury 8 (2 sticks)

7600k is sitting at 4.5ghz, he will be gaming and more than likely it will be fortnite and apex legends. I was unsure which one would be best to keep.

I would go with the ryzen system as it gives you 2 cores 8 threads extra and also gives you the option of dropping in a 3600 or even a 4600 / 4700x etc in the future so it will last for many years.

Keep the AMD system for yourself & Your son gets the intel.

I have just upgraded my board, cpu, ram so the 2600 based board was stripped from that machine hence my reason for the post. I get what you mean though, my new 3600x is far betterr

From my point of view, depending on how old & how tech savvy your son is, he will be more concerned about playing said games at smooth frame rates then future upgrades.

He's only 10 so not that tech savvy yet apart from the usual ipad and ps4 junk.

Reason for my opinion. Nephew (Age 18) was complaining about lag in Overwatch on his old PC (i5 4570s & R9 280x) He's off to uni so for his 18th he got an R5 2600 & RX570 4GB upgrade. Not heard him complain since. :D
