Which CPU should I use?

My fiance's nan is having a lot of computer problems and so we have offered to donate her a computer. She currently uses an old Windows 2000 pc (not sure on specs) but really, anything better will be a huge improvement.

The reason we made the offer is that I constantly upgrade my PC's (every 6 months or so) and so have a lot of parts lying around and in fact, we have a spare full computer that we will be giving her. The computer is currently as follows:

- Gigabyte GA-G41M-ES2L Motherboard
- Intel Pentium D 2.8GHz CPU
- 2GB DDR2 8500 RAM
- 250GB SATA Hard Drive
- SATA DVD ReWriter
- 450W PSU

This computer is only going to be used for web browsing, printing digital photos, maybe a bit of word processing, etc so my question is, will this processor last them a good couple of years or should I upgrade the processor to maybe a Celeron E3300 Dual Core 2.5GHz?

I know I could get something like an Intel E5300 for not a lot more, but money is really tight so don't really want to pay out too much.

Should be alright as is, if not a bit power hungry. Depends on what OS you'd be putting on there. Slitaz would make it lighting fast and isn't hard to learn how to use coming from Windows.

Thanks for the replies. I used it myself for a couple of times with Windows 7 Professional on it, so will be putting that on the machine for them. However, when I take the computer, I will also be taking the original XP disc so they can choose what they prefer.

The only problem with 'try it for a bit and see' is that my fiances nan lives 330 miles away so it wouldn't be simple to just pop down and change the cpu :)

Any other opinions would be fantastic

The cpu u plan on using in it, will easily handle what she will do, a nice cheap dual core is handy for virus scanning and still working away.

Personally for me id just get the cheap celeron dual core, for peace of mind, that way you won't be wondering should i have gotten it or not.
