Which CPU to buy?

I am looking for a CPU in or abouts the €140 price range.

I see loads of flavours of intels and AMD's out there. (Used to be a big AMD fanboy)

So what would be the top 2 CPU's you would recommend? I dont want to OC it, just want a fast and very stable CPU for games and running fraps at the same time. I'd probably run win2k as my OS for a while. Or XP if its really recommended.

Want to build my system around the CPU i get so i need to decide that first.

Any pro's cons atm with Intel & Athlon? Work mate told me Intel are making better chips atm but AMD always were the best bang for your buck! So given the 140£ what CPU is best? Many thanks

Ok guys you've got me convinced!

Going to order up a system tomorrow with the E6300 at the center of the bad boy!

So what motherboard and ram would you recommend to match that CPU?
I want something that is reliable and fast... I dont want anymore hardware failures!

I am not sure whats the best way to match RAM/Mobo/CPU given the speed of the CPU. Maybe ye guys know that!
