Which CPU to get??

Ok what CPU do you all recommend out of the following??

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4400+
AMD Athlon FX55


or do I wait for the AMD M2 socket to appear??

I'm sorta not sure at the moment

Do you wanna overclock Stelly?

If so, go for an Opty 170 (they have good steppings atm)

If you don't wanna OC and play games. Get the 4400+.

The FX55 will be out of date rather quickly indeed (within a month or two).

i would personally say the 4400+ - but thats because they have been pretty good steppings recently

Go for the Opteron 170, it's highly overclockable and it's price is similar to the 4400.

I believe the latest stock of opty 170s have a stepping of;

CCBWE 0609FPAW - One guy has his upto 2.8ghz on 1.45V on the opty OCing thread...

Why does everyone love Optys so much, whats so great about them?

Scenario: An AMD FX60 Dual core CPU with 2x1mb cache running at 2.6ghz costs you about £740.

Scenario: An AMD Opteron 165 Dual core CPU with 2x1mb cache running at 1.8ghz costs you about £260. However, the 165 will highly likely overclock to 2.6ghz, and thus you have the same performance as the FX60 at almost a 3rd of the price. Wonder why they are so popular?
I have one and it is fantastic.
