which cpu upgrade?

I currently have a dual core opty 170 running at 2.4 each core , i was contemplating the Q6600 quad core , but then i seen people praise the 2180 up so much ,,so hense my post to help me deciede what upgrade to take , this upgrade will have to do me for 1yr , and the pc is used mostly for gaming, but i also like to have apps + firefox windows open at same time.
OFC i will have to change MB and ram to suit what ever cpu i choose.
and would going from a opty170 dual core to a 2180 be an upgrade ?

It would be, but I'm not sure it's quite enough to warrant a new system.

Going from dual-core to another dual-core isn't really that much of an upgrade. I would keep what you have or go for the Quad.

Quad 6600 i thinks then , bet knowing my luck they will still fall in price in jan despite the other threat that i read about rumors about the 45nm delay
