Which cpu would be fastest?

At the max stable overclock on air, would the E4300 or 3800+ be faster, and by how much?

I can get the athlon for £60 del and the intel for £98 del, but I'm not sure which route to go. How does the future look for intel and amd? And how futureproof is socket 775 vs am2?

For an extra ~tenner you could get a E6300.
Its only 60MHz faster than the 4300 but should clock better.

The cheapest I've seen it is £115, and it's £130 here.

I'm on the tighest budget you could imagine.

I think the E4300 would have the 3800+ for lunch on an appropriately capable motherboard. The E4300 has a higher multi which means it can clock higher than an E6300 with the same low performance RAM (i.e you don't have to run your FSB quite so high).

You can get a 4300 for £99 or a little less. I did and it's perfectly stable at 3.4ghz.
