I am buying 2 8800gts 4gb of corsair dominator ram and an asus 750i board, which cpu would i need to be able to get the full benefit out of SLi

Thanks in advance

E8400 or Q6600, depending on whether you want two very fast cores or four not so fast cores.

The E8400 will be better for gaming as very few games can currently take advantage of 4 cores. But then a Q6600 is currently cheaper than the E8400.

Worms. Can. Opened.

I can overclock if i need to but i prefer a fairly quiet pc tbh. the post above said 2 8800gts it should have said 2 8800gt's not sure if that makes any difference at all. you said very few games support quad core can you list the ones that do as ive not heard of any yet.

Both will be enough to handle the SLI. No problem there.

+1 for a quad core, since 2 extra cores (another PC basically) is too much to ignore :)

Or buy a quad later on, I have a E8400 @ 3.6 and my plans are to upgrade to quad in 1 or 2years time when dual core cant hack it anymore, cos then the quads should be dirt cheap then and my board can take quad cpus.

Basically Im going do the same as I did with my last system, I had a [email protected] untill last sumer then I changed to a [email protected], cos the fx55 was starting to let me down in the gamming world, but I had that cpu for a good 2.5yrs. So who knows how long I will be able to keep my E8400 before it starts letting me down

the idea of buying last gen tech to future proof is ridiculous by the time they show any use in games they will be far too long in the tooth.

saying that though if you run several applications at once, especially stuff like photoshop and encode get the 6600.
