Hi I've got the Rampage Extreme 4 motherboard just need the CPU. Which one would u guy recommend, the 3960x or the 3930k I play a few game and surf the web and the odd video converting.

Got money to buy the 3960x but it's still a lot of money on a CPU which will become old'ish in 18 months

Thanks in advance

Are you planning on upgrading in the next 18 month?? Tbh if the 3930 will do what you want it to do then just get that and put the other cash to 'other' things for your set up.

If your main use is gaming and browsing, socket 2011 is a bit of overkill! No harm in that, of course, but it does mean that the higher end processors won't be fully used very often (video conversion will use all the threads, but most games and browsing will not use 6 cores and/or hyperthreading).

I would recommend holding off until the new year, when the 3820 (locked multiplier, 4 cores) is expected (I don't know dates, but believe it's due in Jan and the US price is expected to be less than $300). If you do more than just a little video converting then the 3930K will do what you need (based on reviews and benchmarks, here and elsewhere). The 3960X is only 100MHz faster at stock, and if you are mostly a casual user and gamer then the extra price is probably hard to justify.
