Looking to do a new pc build in the next 4 weeks...

currently deciding on CPU between the

IB 3570k
or
SB 2500K

This will be my main pc for the next 4 years and I would be looking to overclock the cpu to perhaps 4.2-4.5ghz on a modest air cooler(Approx £50-£100). Hoping to keep things as quiet as possible so heat containment will be an issue. So with this in mind, which suits me better the SB 2500K or the IB 3570K?

I will be upgrading from a Core 2 Duo 6320 and a 8600GT graphics card so speed wise both cpu's will be a MAJOR upgrade.

I would personally go with the i5 3570K.

It is a bit hotter when overclocked than the i5 2500K - however with that cooling budget you will be able to get a nice air cooler that achieves your desired overclock, while keeping noise very low and temperatures safe.

The 3570K also gives you the benefit of slightly better performance (~5-10% faster per clock than the 2500K and a significantly faster onboard graphics core) and PCIE gen3 support. Sandy Bridge CPUs like the i5 2500K only support PCIE gen2 - this only offers half the bandwidth per lane as PCIE gen3. Therefore, for running future graphics cards (which presumably you will be as you plan to keep this rig for a while) it makes sense to get a CPU that supports PCIE gen3 - as it greatly reduces the chance that the PCIE bandwidth will bottleneck a future high performance graphics card.

Little bit of a thread hijack, but just want a quick opinion.

Pentium e5200 dual core or
Pentium e6300 dual core

I hate the confusing naming scheme between the core 2 duo and pentiums...

Sorry man, but this is completely off the OP's topic. If you create a new thread we will answer your question and can discuss it further.
