Hey guys i know you will all think this is a stupid question, but what is the differences between the intel 1155 and the 2011 i assume the sockets are different but what difference is there for power and usage. Cheers. George.

The 2011 sockets are build for enthusiasts who want the best performance - at a price. Most people would be content with the "mainstream" 1155 platform though.

I7 3730k is the shining star on 2011 platform
But it is easier to understand the fact that soket 2011 is workstation platform costing a lot for more
And 1155 i7 represents enthusiast platform

basically socket 2011 has support for 6 core+ cpus, 1155 your limited to 4 cores. 2011 also gives you more pcie lanes and more ram that runs in quad channel, while 1155 is dual channel

Are you guys from future?? So far I have never heard of 3790K or 3730K... What is going on

How do these new future CPUs compare to the crappy old 3930k, 3960x and 3970x. If they are any good, I want one, but which one to go for.:D:confused:

I think the other difference is on the chipset...
1155 socket are on z77 top... which only has 16 Lane for PCIe 3.0
whereas 2011 sockets are on x79 currently... which has 40(?) lane for PCIe 3.0

so gaming wise... if you are going after Tri/Quad fire/SLI you might consider getting x79 as z77 will bottleneck the display cards if you go further than Dual cards....

I'm a newbie who just happen to read up difference between x79 and z77 :D
Correct me if I get things wrong!!

Me sucking and getting numbers mixed up, ma bahd.

EDIT: SHUT UP ME, I was right lol. Had me confused there for a minute haha

Lol nope, no such thing as a 3730K or a 3790K. Not sure what you're smoking sir but can I have some?

The i7 3820 (2011) is around the same price as the 3770K (1155)

There are decent socket 2011 boards around for the same price or perhaps just slightly more than a mid-high end socket 1155 board.

Socket 1155 is at the end of the line now, there won't be any more CPU's made for 1155 as it is being replaced by socket 1150 imminently. The 3770K is as far as you can go on that socket.

Socket 2011 is not at the end of the line. There will be another generation of chips on that socket yet, leaving you more upgrade options.

Personally with that in mind, I would either go with socket 2011, or wait for socket 1150.

or just buy 3790K apparently it a great CPU.
