Which CPU?

I've had my i7 950 bloomfield for some time now, and it's time to upgrade I think. Currently have gig x58a-ud3r, 12 gig ram, 1 gtx 660 ti, running 7 ultimate and cpu at stock speed.

I'm out of the loop for the last 2-3 years.
I use my rig for gaming, and mainly recording in Cubase (I have all my sound stuff sorted).

Any suggestions for upgrade? I can keep my psu, nzxt case etc

Up to 1000 I guess. I have an m-audio 2496 audiophile soundcard for recording, so whatever mobo must have a pci slot
