Hi Guys,

my girlfriend has just bought a new flat and has given me the task of finding her a new tv. She wants to spend £500 max on it and it will be used for watching soaps, home improvement shows and the dirty dancing dvd! Only joking, but mainly it will be used for dvd and freeview digital tv (provided by a sony freeview box).

I have looked at the standard currys, dixons, argos fair and there is nothing special there. Can any of you guys recommend any models and where to buy them?

pink is right, go for a used one, they are worth very little these days and you can pick up some right bargains, i got a 2 year old 28" WS Sony (non flat faced, just basic) for £35 recently :)

nero - they're right, i had a Sony kv32 wega, 32", 100hz, flatscreen crt, best i could get for it was £200 and believe me i did try, its a great tv though, its just that its so big at the back and weighs a ton.

what i did was bank the two hundred and added another 400 and picked up a 32" hdtv

might be worth an idea? the picture when viewing dvd isnt as good as the old sony but, it takes up a lot less space, looks nicer, can move it without having to get a couple people to help and is hd ready

I really couldnt convince the gf to spend that much on a tv, with all the other stuff she needs to buy. Her living room is big so size isnt really an issue for her.

i would go for Panasonic 29'' normal aspect ratio lack TV, a TX-29AD1 model.
what an amazing picture, much better than of my m8's, plus the sound was unreal.
At times i could tell at low'ish volumes if i was listening to the TV speakers or via the Hi Fi.
Only when i turn the volume up really high did it become appartent that i was using TV speakers.
Best TV i have ever own, it broke down last year, the FDP chip/board went. A £15 part which Panasonic do not make any more render the whole TV unless ! !
i found out that manufactuers only keep parts for about 6 years then they discontinue them !

So where can i go to pick up a good used CRT TV ?
