Afternoon

Let me just start by saying I am a complete newb, never had a camera apart from the one on the phone.

With baby on the way I want a decent DSLR to take pictures with and was looking at the options. Willing to spend up to £400

Nikon D3100

currently on 10% off promo
(sorry if I can't use asda for links)

Nikon D3200
Both currently running a cashback promotion

Read a lot of reviews but cant really make up my mind. Any SLR pro's here, can you point me in the right direction or suggest something else? Cheers

Just got a D3100 with 18-55 and 35mm f/1.8G lens plus bag and other bits and pieces for what i see as a good price second hand to start doing abit of photography.

Why not look at the auction site and see if you can pick up a good used kit, a lot of value for money!

Link that I shared is basically brand new d3100 with a bag, 8gig card, tripod. After using promotional code of 10% it came down to 281 inc delivery + I will claim extra £30 from Nikon's website

I think you've got somewhere between a few and several hundred dollars to spend on a camera and you want to learn a little bit about how this stuff works, so you can tweak some settings to get better shots, but mostly you just want your pictures to look good.
