Which DDR2 RAM?

Hi guys
I need some help wrapping my head around what's the right RAM for my new system. Its going to be based on a E6700 and the Asus P5B deluxe. I suppose I may do a modest OC on it, but I haven't got a clue where to go with the RAM. Also - 2GB because I won't use 4?

Any solid recommendations? The G.Skill 2GB DDR2 PK PC2-6400 looked ok but I would pay more if it was worth it.

persoanlly i have allways like corsair it costs a lil extra though. also the e6700 does come at aheafty price increase over the e6600. and you can make an e6600 run at e6700 speads with very little effort so most recocmend going for the e6600.

i know i have an e6700 but i got it a very cheap price of a mate. otherwise would have got e6600

the Crucial 10th Aniversary is 667Mhz @ Cas3 rather than 800Mhz @ Cas4..... plus has better chips.... for only a little more money.

Just get the OcUK Value RAM as with the E6700 you'll never exceed FSB400/1600MHz on air. So why buy fancy overclocking RAM if you don't need it?

Tight timings will bolster the size of your ePenis, but you won't notice the extra performance in real life usage.

I have to admit I would not recommend the E6700 over the E6600 as the performance increment is pitifully small for the huge amount of extra money. Indeed, I personally would not go beyond an E6400 these days as with good RAM they will also hit 3.6GHz on air.

Cheers - you say with good RAM I can overclock the 6600 to a 6700. But is the value ram good enough ??

Yes, the OcUK Value RAM is good enough to take an E6600 to 3.6GHz (9x400FSB).

I'm still having trouble understanding this, but I thought the CPU and RAM were independant, therefore when you run asynchronously, the RAM has no effect on the CPU overclock? At least that's what I remember someone saying on here.

You want an ASUS P5N-E SLi based on the NVidia NForce 650i chipset, this thread is about the ASUS P5B which is based on the Intel P965 chipset. On the Intel chipset, the RAM speed is fixed in a ratio to the CPU speed.
